Two traffic accidents result in one fatality.
BALDWIN PARK -- A man was fatally struck by an ambulance after he was involved in a minor rear-ender on the 10 freeway Saturday morning, officials said.
Eduardo Mondano, 22, of San Dimas, was driving a Toyota pick-up and traveling well over the speed limit when he was rear-ended by a Nissan sedan on the 10 freeway west of the Puente Avenue exit shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday.
The impact of the crash caused the two vehicles to come to a stop on opposite sides of the freeway.
Shortly after the accident, an ambulance trying to swerve between the vehicles careened towards Montano as he exited his car to check for damages, CHP officials said in a statement Saturday.
Montano was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the ambulance was identified as Michael Lopez, 23, of West Covina.
Neither Lopez, the driver of the sedan, 42-year-old Juan Vgalde of Baldwin Park, or their passengers were injured.
All lanes were reopened to traffic by 8:15 a.m.
