ABC News reports that a car lost control and crashed into a residence in West Covina, CA. (See story here: http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=9206275 ) It was unclear at the time of the story what caused the drive to collide with the residence. Luckily no one was hurt but, the driver will still be legally responsible for damage to the property. Most auto insurance policies will cover these types of claims but, there may be issues with the policy limits. The minimum policy limit for property damage liability coverage is only $5,000 in California. From the looks of the picture, it would appear that the cost of repair for this particular house will be much greater than that. The homeowner could bring a legal action against the driver and obtain a judgment which could be in excess of his limits or choose to settle for the policy limits and release any future claims.
